Who do you think I am

Who do you think I am?

My name is Paul Watling, and I am a qualified accountant with extensive experience in researching and analysing management information. Originally from Hertfordshire, I have worked and lived across the United Kingdom and Europe, but Suffolk holds significant importance to me due to over 400 years of family history in the area, particularly around and north of Ipswich, including Worlingworth, Kelsale, and Stradbrooke. The maternal side of my family comes from South Suffolk around Hadleigh, indicating a strong connection to the region.

With over 30 years of experience in family history and genealogy, I have researched and archived seven family histories, accessing numerous records at The National Archives, The British Library, and the National Maritime Museum. Recently, I have explored how commercial DNA testing can enhance our understanding of family migrations and complement genealogical research, as part of a wider East Anglia research group and my own family group.

I have a keen interest in the history and evolution of names, ancient history and its impact on the modern world, and military history and service. I am currently pursuing a Higher Certificate in Genealogy and Family History with The Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, having previously studied Egyptology. I am a member of The Suffolk Family History Society.

With my extensive background my normal regions for research will include East Anglia, Hertfordshire, London, Cambridgeshire and Essex
